A Custom Approach
If you've looked at what I do and thought "I'm not sure what to call this" — you're not wrong. It's not full-service interior design. It's not just organizing or decluttering. It's not styling, either. I've broken interior design down into smaller, more accessible pieces, priced upfront, so you can get exactly the help you need without committing to a full renovation or a five-figure design retainer. It's an unconventional way of working, and I built it that way on purpose. Here's what it actually is.
Interior design isn't decorating
"Interior designer" tends to bring one picture to mind: someone who picks your paint colors, your furniture, your finishes. That's decorating — an add-on, not the essential, core part of designing a home.
Interior design is the floor plan. It's the furniture layout plan. It's the lighting plan, etc. It's how a space is actually organized to work. It's about planning a space that actually works, not about picking colors. Decorating sits on top of that structure; it isn't the structure itself. Think of it like a fashion designer and styling: accessorizing isn't essential to a garment, but it definitely brings the whole look together. Decorating does the same for a home — it's what pulls the finished picture together, once the design underneath it is right.
I'm trained in interior design, and that's where the work actually starts: the layout, the flow, the plan for how a space functions. I can decorate too, if a project needs it. But the real work — and the reason clients come to me — is the core planning underneath it, tailored to how your specific family actually lives, moves, and functions day to day.
The tailor metaphor
Think of three ways someone can help with your wardrobe: a fashion designer, a stylist, and a tailor. A fashion designer creates something from scratch. A stylist chooses things off the rack and hands them to you. A tailor does neither — a tailor works with what you already have: your existing wardrobe, your actual body, your budget, filling in the gaps so everything fits the way it's supposed to.
I start there, too — tailoring what you already have first, because that's what avoids waste. I take it further only when it's genuinely needed: filling real gaps with pieces your home actually needs, and designing something new if it doesn't exist yet. So for your home, I'm a stylist, a fashion designer, and a tailor, all at once — tailoring always comes first, and the other two step in only when tailoring alone can't get you there.
That's what I do with your home. I'm not bringing in a mood board of things you should buy, and I'm not gutting what you already have and starting over. I'm working with your existing home — your existing "wardrobe" — and tailoring it to fit your life: your budget, how you want to move through your space, how you want to live day to day.
Why tailoring, not gutting
Here's the reality most design conversations skip: almost nobody actually custom-builds their house. You buy an existing home — designed by someone else, or built by a builder who had no idea who you are, how your family functions, or how you want to live. The house was never designed for you in the first place. That mismatch is the real starting problem, long before anyone talks about paint colors.
The obvious fix — gut the place and start over — isn't realistic for most people, and it's not what I do. I'm not a designer who tears everything out and rebuilds from zero. Most people don't have an endless budget for that, and most are already stretched to afford the house itself. So I work with what's actually there — using design strategies and a lot of practical "hacks" to tailor your existing structure to your family, without a gut renovation and without a houseful of new things. Mostly, it's using what you already have and finally making it work for you.
More than a tailor
There's one more layer beyond fit: I also want to understand the bigger picture — how you want to express yourself at home, and how you want your life to feel, not just how your rooms should look. So the work isn't only "does this fit you" — it's "does this support who you're becoming."
